The Albuquerque
Balloon Fiesta

Including a visit to Santa Fe, NM

October 1 - 5, 2010

Up, Up and Away! Come visit Albuquerque, New Mexico and experience firsthand the spectacular Hot Air Balloon Fiesta. Over 800 balloons participate in the event that has become the premier balloon festival in the country. Each day a mass ascension at dawn fills the skies over Albuquerque with hundreds of balloons of all shapes and sizes, while the evening "glow" showcases the balloons in the light of their own fires. We will begin our five days in Albuquerque at the balloon festival and then take some time to visit Santa Fe and the surrounding mountains. There is time set aside one morning so those interested can experience the thrill of riding in a hot air balloon. What fun!

Today is your opportunity to take a hot air balloon ride, meet and talk to some of the balloon owners, and enjoy the sights.

The day starts very early as we arrive at the balloon field for the early morning mass ascension and other festival events. We will remain at the park this morning giving you time to see the exhibits, enjoy the wine festival (admission not included in your tour price), and pick up a bite to eat at one of the many food vendors at the festival.  This afternoon we will visit Old Town Albuquerque where you may want to visit the Turquoise Museum, the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History or see authentic adobes up to 300 years old in the Old Town Plaza.  We will have an early dinner together enjoying Spanish cuisine and then return to the hotel.  (B,D)

To become acquainted with Native American culture, we will visit the Pueblo Indian Cultural Center in the afternoon.  We will return to the balloon park this evening to see the fireworks.  (B,L)

As the heart of the city and the place where Santa Fe was founded, the Plaza is the city's most historic area.  It is surrounded by museums, historic buildings, restaurants, galleries and endless shopping.  This town is a living artists' colony, containing some of the most beautiful sculptures and works of art you are likely to see anywhere. Museum Hill is a collection of four of the cities most interesting museums:  Museum of International Folk Art, Museum of Indian Arts & Culture, Museum of Spanish Colonial Art, and the Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian. We will return to Albuquerque this evening, have dinner together and share our favorite memories from our time together. (B,D)
